With Dick Gaughan: Wild Mountain Thyme
Though not well-known in the United States, the Scottish folk singer Dick Gaughan recorded his first album in 1972 and is renowned in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Citizen K. was privileged to see him perform in a small community venue on The Mullet, a remote peninsula in the wilds Ireland's County Mayo. Singing with Gaughan and Emmylou Harris are Kate and Anna McGarrigle and Rufus Wainwright.

And that's Jerry Douglas on dobro, and Jay Ungar is one of the fiddlers. I've always loved that whole Transatlantic Sessions series.
Can't say as I blame you. The videos makes it clear what immense regard they have for each other. There's nothing to bolster a performance like singers who know it won't be easy to hold their own.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Dick is treasure. The one time I saw him -- in Belmullet, County Mayo -- was one of those experiences I'll feel fortunate to take with me the rest of my life.

I can't listen to this without sobbing. That evening in Belmullet was transcending.
The sky -- close to midnight -- still held the last of the West of Ireland light as we traversed the bogs, the only car on the road for miles.
Bitter -- and sweet -- and filled with sorrow.
